I'm leavin on a jet plane!

OK, maybe it's a little kia rent-a-car, but STILL, we're (Paul, Otis, and I) leaving tonight for our road trip down to Florida for the wedding! Can you believe it's finally here?!?

I thought I'd share a bit of the behind-the-scenes footage, since so many of you have been following my pre-wedding adventures.

If you've seen the photos from my bridal shower, you'd know my family is extremely talented and have done so so much to make this whole wedding experience what any girl would dream of! My parents found this antique desk for the arrival (guest) table. And those wooden planks with numbers, door knobs and an ornate key hole . . . yea, my mom made those! She also sewed like 150 chiffon flowers to wrap around our guest's napkins. Even the box she put them in is pretty!

Boxes of chiffon petals in blush and rose.

This is the mock up for the candy table. You don't even know how incredible this is going to look once it's finished. Again, thanks to my mom and my amazing dad, who has trucked along just about every weekend since my engagement to find every perfect little vintage piece.

Bottles we've found/collected for the cocktail tables.
These will hold one or two stems of blush roses.

Who needs etsy? My dad cut these wooden signs to sit on the back of our chairs. My mom painted them to look old fashioned.

You're probably thinking,
what the hell did you do for this wedding, Venessa?
Well . . . take a look at my wedding invitation station!
 I look scared, don't I?

My Save-the-Date, Bridal Shower Invite, Wedding Invitation, Menu . . . were all designed by the lovely Elana, my bridesmaid extraordinaire and one of my oldest friends. How lucky am I to have such talented people in my life?

Writing out all the names took the longest. Since I didn't want to pay for a calligraphist (and I love doing these kind of things myself), I just picked out a font I liked on DaFont.com and just tried it free hand. I went through a pack of mess ups, but still, saved a ton of money!

You'd be surprised how hard it is to find wax these days.
Order online if you're going to do this project. It's fun and adds such a beautiful touch . . . i think : )

Tip for those getting married: buy a custom-made stamp from Etsy for your return address. Here's a listing for one, so you see how easy it is to order. (So, yea, maybe you do need Etsy : ) You can choose the font and it adds such a personal, vintage feel, I think. Plus, it made my life so much easier! And it's a great job to give to your fiance (since it's hard to mess it up! : ) )

Honeymoon packing is so much more fun than regular packing. I have to admit I was up until 2 AM last night, trying everything on again!

Oh, and here's a fun fact!
(courtesy of one of my work collegues):
The term "honeymoon" comes from the idea of fertility and the tradition of newlywed couples drinking mead, or honey-wine, every day for the first month of their marriage to celebrate their marriage and increase the odds of having a child.

I think I can handle the wine part.
As far as the fertility part, don't get any ideas, Mom.

Hope you enjoyed a little sneak peek. I'm outta here! Forgive me if it seems like I dropped off the face of the earth for a few weeks. I'll try my best to post and keep you updated! XO!

Apartment Checklist

This might be hard to believe, but I've got other things on my mind besides the wedding. Uh, like that 15 days after I get back from my honeymoon, my lease is up! That kinda stuff just creeps up on it, doesn't it?

I could stay another year, but I've lived in the same apartment for 4 years, and that's like a lifetime in nyc. It's been great and all, but I just need a new scene to look at when I walk to work every day (that whole 5 minutes to the subway). And it just feels like we should start fresh - Mr. & Mrs.- in a new home, don't you think?

And if we're going to move, I'd like to stay for another 4 years. Might as well be pickier this time. There's just 3 requests on my Apartment Checklist.

Exposed Brick
certainly easy enough to find here.
I smell a Brooklyn apartment. Love Brooklyn.

My only chance at affording a studio like this
would be in Brooklyn. In Bed Stuy.

Sunlight, please!
I will not budge from this one. I live in darkness right now.

And you know I can't live without a bathtub.
Nope, can't do it.

What about you? What's your Apartment Must-Have?

Say it with chalk

Hope everyone is having a great week! I recently bought a can of chalkboard paint to make a cheeseboard for Venessa's bachelorette. I've been brainstorming more ideas to use the rest of the can. Here's what I got...
