I just completed a
five day detox - go me! I have received a few emails from friends and bloggers requesting more information on my detox, so I thought I would make an "official" blog post.
After the holidays, I was in a mega slump, feeling so unmotivated to work out and to actually get off my couch and out of my apartment! This is so not me. I did a ton of research on cleanses and weighed the pros, cons, and health benefits of all of them. I found this
Battle of the New Year's Cleanses and was seriously intrigued. However, I was not willing to pay over $100 on a kit when I could put in a little time and energy in researching and creating my own. So, this is what happened...

For
breakfast and dinner, I drank a green smoothie. It really turned out delicious (I promise!)
Recipe:
-A handful or two of fresh spinach
-1 banana (preferably frozen)
-Around 10 strawberries
-1 cup of almond milk (or soy)
Add all to a food processor and blend until smooth.
*I added water and ice depending on thickness and amended to my preference.
**I also added ground flax seed for some added fiber and calories.
***Add whatever fruit you want. I added blueberries one day and it was still so yummy.
For
lunch I ate raw, organic, fruits and vegetables. To work, I threw in SO many fruits for a fruit salad and zip locked cucumbers, carrots and celery.

In addition to meals, I made sure to add
supplements and vitamins:
-Multi vitamin
-Milk Thistle
-Pro-biotic
-Fish Oil
The hardest part, believe it or not, wasn't the meals. It was the NO COFFEE! I swapped my java for cups of green tea (hot and filling, yes, but definitely not coffee).
Other helpful tips:
Make sure you plan all of your meals. Create a grocery list before you go to the store and stock up on produce. Also make sure you are adamant at taking vitamins.
The results of my detox?
-I lost seven pounds total.
-My skin looks the best it has in years, no joke.
-It gave me the motivation and energy I was looking for to get myself back on track in the gym and motivated in general.
Overall... Success! If you do one, please let me know how it goes!
