What Makes Me Happy:
Enjoying a day outside with best friends. Catching up with girlfriends at Brunch on Sundays sharing weekend recaps (over bloody marys and mimosas of course). A hug from my mom. A phone date with a faraway friend. My dad’s pancakes when I’m visiting home. Airports because I’m going on an adventure. Dog parks. Swimming in the ocean and salt drying on my skin. Fireworks. Live music outside in the Summer. My Dream Travel Destination:
I studied abroad in Florence, Italy in college and also backpacked Europe but I have been yearning to go back to the mountains of Switzerland or the wineries of Tuscany. My next trip will be either to Peru or Greece - two destinations that are on my bucket list.
Awkwardness:
When you have a heartfelt and long goodbye with someone, you leave and then realize you forgot something, so you have that awkward goodbye all over again.
My Fears:
Ten years from now and feeling like I have regrets. I think about that a lot and it's why I often take risks and do things and don’t consider the consequeneces. Although irresponsible, I would rather live this way than play it safe. Other fears include: sea creatures in the ocean or walking around the ocean floor when you can’t see bottom (I swear, something is going to eat me), staring contests with cats, and non-enclosed heights.
My Favorite Music:
I’m a huge IndieRock fan. My favorite bands include Guster, Ben Folds, Band of Horses, Arctic Monkeys, Best Coast, Birds and the Bees, The Decemberists and The Black Keys. I LOVE making friends mixes and sharing the love of a good band. And, oddly, I have a thing for folk or celtic music - The fiddle is my favorite instrument.
Ten Years From Now:
A few years ago, I would have told you married with children. Ideally, yes, I would like for those things to happen, but I think I’m OK if they don’t. I would like own my own home, have something published - be it a short story or novel, and ultimately, be comfortable with where I am at in my life and in my own skin.
I hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend.

I loved reading this post. I read the post by Two Birds as well and it definitely made me think about what I am doing and why I am doing it when I look at blogs. Also- your words on taking risks were inspiring.

Loved this post. You're so lucky that you got to study abroad! I hope I can get out of the country one day lol. I used to be into indie rock myself... but now I'm into hip hop.. lmao I'm all over the place..
ReplyDeleteAnd brunch is the best! I used to go into NYC to meet my girlfriends on Sundays at this little French restaurant down the block from their apartment.. so much fun!

I love brunch on Sundays with some girlfriends. That's literally my favorite. And I've never left the U.S., but my friend is in Florence for the summer, and I am SO jealous of her. It's so nice getting to know more about you!

LOVE this post!! I agree with the things that make you happy and I'm also scared of the creatures in the ocean. I got stung badly by a jelly fish a few years ago and I've been terrified ever since. Hope you had a great weekend!

Ah Julia another amazing post - I don't think I could put my finger on why I to go back day after day to visit certain blogs - yours being one of them. You just do. There is something personal and real about your blog, like it's not forced I suppose...and I love that. This post is particularly lovely getting to know more about you...I loved your fears section as I SO related - I literally wont/cannot swim in ocean water if I cant see the bottom. damn STRAIGHT something will eat us (I also scream if seaweed touches me haha) .. Hope you (& Venessa!) had a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteAnna xx
Anna, you are so funny - and so sweet! Obviously, yours is a “must read” and bookmarked page. xo
DeleteI would love to see Greece as well! It's at the top of my travel destination list.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday :)

I loved this! It's like you were reading my mind with your fears.... I'm from Perth originally so I'm techinically a beach girl... I love walking along the water's edge, watching the waves come in but not actually getting into the water for fear something may eat me!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question - we have a couple more trips lined up - Chicago in July, Montauk in September and maybe Boston for July 4th... can't wait, I love travelling around the US - it's an amazing country!
Peru and Greece are definitely high on my bucket list too!! Great post - I love learning more about other bloggers!
ReplyDeletexx
Wish that all your drams come true 10 years from now!
ReplyDeleteThis just made me laugh! I'm so glad I'm not the only person who absolutely refused to swim in the ocean because I can't see the bottom. Having been surrounded by a group of jellyfish once and seeing tons of blowfish and all sorts of nasties in the seawater, I now prefer to swim in a pool.
ReplyDeleteI spent quite a bit of time in Greece. Love the country but hate what's going on right now.
Really enjoyed this post! But gosh, at my age, I don't wanna think about 10 years from now hahaha
