I apologize for the delay in posting my NYC Fashion Night Out recap. It was my birthday this weekend, so the festivities carried me away. But more about that later!
First, let me pan out and show you the scene
last Thursday night in Soho:

A freakin mob at times, but this was probably around 9 PM when it started to feel more like NYC High School Night Out than anything else. But, I'm getting ahead of myself and there
were some great parts to my first FNO experience.
Here's what I saw and, more importantly, learned:
Lesson 1: Have the balls to shamelessly snap photos of celebs.
They should expect it, right? Prior to my sighting, I was on the phone with Alex, desperately trying to figure out her location. "You're not right outside Marc Jacobs. IM outside Marc Jacobs. No IM outside Marc Jacobs . . . Oh and wow, look who's here too."
And that's when I spotted Courtney Love.
That's her back there, slumped over on a bench outside a restaurant on Mercer. And the reason this photo sucks so much is because I was a chicken shit, trying to be slick and my camera failed me. But I think even in this blur, you can tell she is EXACTLY how you'd imagine her: a mess and certainly not a hot one (not Everything Pretty, I'm sorry to say). But nevertheless, this celeb sighting off the bat made the night look quite promising.
Lesson 2: Dresses with tail hems are showstopping.
I spotted this girl at Marc Jacobs. Clearly, she looked stunning in this dress with a tail hem. One you could easily wear day or night. And it made me do a double take. I think I need one of these in my closet. What do ya think?
Lesson 3: black + camel is the new olive + ivory
The combination was everywhere. In the stores and on the streets. Yup, it's official, Fall has arrived. I'm stoked.
Lesson 4: Choose accessories with a little 'tude. yeaah gurl.
In music terms, the Fall trend is lookin more like Joan Jett than Taylor Swift, if ya know what I mean. Case in point:

Here's Alex trying on a collar necklace (an amazing trend) at Vera Wang. With glass stones and chain fringe, this necklace was to die for. And the best part: it zips up!
How cute is she? Met her on our journey and spotted her style right away. Can you see the back of her suspenders in the mirror? And what you don't see behind that gorg ombre hair of hers is the white collar necklace she rocked, similar to this one:
But my girl's necklace was against her skin (just like wearing a necklace with a V-Neck). We can totally make that! Another day.
Lesson 5: Sadly, the crowd went wild for Paulie . . . something or other from Jersey Shore.

This kind of behavior made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. Alex and I basically ran (away) for our lives because of the amount of screaming fans bum rushing Dash (where this crew was stationed). The police put up barricades and we're thinking, "ooh, who is in there? Please tell me it's not Courtney taking her clothes off." Boy were we sadly disappointed. Check out that grown woman hanging onto that column for dear life to snap a picture. Nucking Futs.
Lesson 6: Sometimes beauty isn't worth the pain.

Granted, I probably shouldn't have rocked these at work all day before going out all night. But these mean shoes KILLED me! I'm really mad at them right now. I was in extruciating pain come 10 PM.
Lesson 7: Platform shoes are happening.

Or as I like to call them, Herman Munster shoes. They are everywhere! Her layered look with the platforms, Love it!
Well folks, for fear of being long winded (opps too late), I will wrap up and leave you with this:
black & white stripes with red lips make a great look; buy yourself a few
tailored blazors for the season;
soft romantic ruffles paired with a leather jacket is kind of amazing, and this blogger I met on the train, Colleen from
Jimmy Choos on the Treadmill,:
is pretty adorable and I bet her blog is too!
