the inverted bun

or so I call it . . .

I've been wearing my hair up a lot lately. This is because it's 1) hot as hell outside and 2) I'm not washing my hair as frequently (trying to grow it out healthy for the wedding). And would ya look at this one? I love it! It's so romantic (and still messy!). I thought I'd share, except it didn't come with a tutorial. So bear with me as I try to document my steps. I haven't done this before (famous last words) . . .

What I suspect you'll need:

+plenty of bobby pins

And that's it! That's the thing about messy dos.
You should use your hands instead of a comb.

1: Attempt this hairstyle when you wake up in the a.m. and you have mophead. Like this:

2: Part down the middle and don't worry about being exact. It's almost better if you aren't.

3: Give your hair a good shake. Better if it's all tangled at this stage. (I have really thin hair, so thick-mess is hard to achieve. This is why I use dry shampoo to get some volume going.

Meet my saving grace:

Then grab enough hair from the front on either sides and twist against your scalp (in an upward motion! so it's folding away from your ear). Do this to both sides and secure with bobbypins in the back.

4: Take the rest of your hair and roll it toward your head. (it might be easier to use your hand to wrap like a curling iron). And then secure where ever you can with lots and lots of bobby pins.

5: Pull little pieces out, twist them around your finger and let them hang for ultimate messiness.

And tada:

The great thing about this hairstyle is that you can't really go wrong.
The more mess, the better! The original is obviously much better, but not too shabby for a first-timer, eh?
